The exact origins of Lincoln’s Inn, and in fact any of the other three Inns of Court, are not fully known. We do know that the Inn’s formal records, or governing minutes known as the ‘Black Books’, go back continuously to 1422, which is nearly eighty years earlier than any other Inn.
Lincoln’s Inn is located in central London. The main entrance to the estate is staffed twenty four hours a day and is located on the south east corner of Lincoln’s Inn Fields. The estate is conveniently located only a short walk from either Holborn or Chancery Lane tube stations.

A more accurate title might be something like: theories on Lincoln’s Inn. That’s because Lincoln’s Inn is so old that the history of it is obscured and, for the early periods at least, is largely educated guesswork.
