The top picture was of children working in a glass factory in Indiana in 1908 taken by Lewis Hine, who publicized the nasty working conditions of child laborers, which spurred child labor legislation. Governor Thomas Marshall (1909-1913), later Vice President, successfully passed child labor laws during his tenure.
