5 de mar. de 2021 · A John Marin Biography: The Life and Times of an American Modernist. In 1870, John Marin was born in New Jersey’s city of Rutherford. Following his mother’s death only days after his birth, Marin went to live in Weehawken with his two aunts in his grandparents’ house.
John Marin was one of America’s outstanding modernists from his debut exhibition of watercolors at Alfred Stieglitz’s 291 Gallery in New York City in 1909, until the artist’s death in 1953.
Brooklyn Bridge. Since the early twentieth century, John Marin has been considered an important member of the group of modern artists — including Georgia O'Keeffe, Arthur Dove, and Marsden Hartley — who were associated with Alfred Stieglitz and his New York galleries.
