Dems that can consistently win purple seats are vital to the party and in Manchins case he was able to hold a crimson red seat while voting with the party 50% of the time. It was incredibly impactful and saved Obamacare (McCain gets the credit with the dramatic "no" but it wouldn't have been a question without Manchins no).
