The Wikimedia Foundation supports hundreds of thousands of people around the world in creating the largest free knowledge projects in history. The work of volunteers helps millions of people around the globe discover information, contribute knowledge, and share it with others no matter their bandwidth.

Our activities are overseen by a Board of Trustees, composed of members elected by the Wikimedia affiliate and project communities, as well as subject matter experts. We work to make governance information available to both the movement and the public.
As machine-generated content becomes more commonplace, the work humans do to ensure free and neutral information is accessible to everyone becomes more important than ever. Technology runs on knowledge, and knowledge is human. Creating, gathering, and passing knowledge from generation to generation is an essential part of what makes us human.
