27 de mar. de 2013 · Prince Leopold was the eighth of the nine children and the fourth and youngest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Born on April 7, 1853 at Buckingham Palace in London, England, Leopold was described as delicate from a very early age. It soon became apparent that he suffered from the genetic disease hemophilia.

Even though he was not serving in the military, he had an honorary association with the 72nd Regiment, Duke of Albany’ s Own Highlanders. He served as the first Colonel-in-Chief of the Seaforth Highlanders when the regiment was formed in 1881.
