This marks the first time in over four decades that the character Ryo Asuka is featured in an official anime series. Prior to this, Ryo Asuka had almost exclusively appeared in OVAs until now. This is Atsuko Tanaka's second time to be voice Sirene, since she previously voiced her in the PlayStation videogame adaptation of Devilman.

Devilman (Japanese: デビルマン, Hepburn: Debiruman) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Go Nagai.The manga focuses on a high school student named Akira Fudo who absorbs the powers of the demon called "Amon" with help of his friend Ryo Asuka in order to battle creatures hidden in human society, thus calling himself the "Devilman" in the process.
Ryou Asuka (飛鳥 了) Ryou Asuka is the best friend of Akira Fudo, the protagonist of Devilman. Though the two were separated after Akira switched schools, they were reunited when Ryou sought Akira's help to stop the demons which had begun to reappear in the world.

Aska later denied this, explaining that his name was derived from "Asuka", the name of female radio DJ in Fukuoka on whom he had a crush in college. When he thought about his stage name, he used Aska to get back at the DJ. At first, the English notation of his name was Ryo Asuka, but this was often mispronounced, so Asuka was changed to Aska. [7]
