Castle History. The first personal related reference of the Hohenzollern House dates back to 1061 ("Wezil et Burchardus de Zolorin"). First direct mention of the Castle complex ("Castro Zolre") was in 1267. Appearance, size and furnishing of the original Castle are unknown, but presumably it was in the first decade of the 11th century.
This is where the castle's residents hid when enemies were at the gate. On these stones the Hohenzollern dynasty was built. Here, at the base of the castle, the first stone was laid nearly 1,000 years ago. Four floors higher and we can see what they made out of it. The hall depicting the family tree of one of Europe's most powerful ruling families.
