4 de ago. de 2023 · No. An approved ESTA is not a visa. It does not meet the legal or regulatory requirements to serve in lieu of a U.S. visa when a visa is required under U.S. law. Individuals who possess a valid visa will still be able to travel to the United States on that visa for the purpose for which it was issued.

You will be a transit passenger only. So even though your flight to the US departs from SYD, you will not have legally visited Australia.
When completing the ESTA for transit application,you will come across the question: “Is your travel to the US occurring in transit to another country?“ You should choose ‘yes’ when answering this question if you have a connecting flight in the US and your final destination is a different country.

I’m travelling to USA flying to LA spending 10 days In USA then cruise Alaska from Seattle before heading to Canada to spend another 10 days before returning to LA for 2 days prior to flight home so the ESTA question
The question did not ask if you stopped in another country before arriving in the USA. It is asking if you are using the USA as a transit point to ANOTHER country. "Is your travel to the USA occurring (while) you are transiting to another country". You are not. You are traveling to the USA so you answered correctly.
