Newbury. Newbury is een civil parish in het bestuurlijke gebied West Berkshire, in het Engelse graafschap Berkshire. De plaats telt ruim 31.000 inwoners (2011). De stad is verbroederd met Eeklo (België). Newbury ligt op 40 km van Oxford en is tegenwoordig vooral bekend van Newbury Racecourse, een paardenrenbaan.
Berkshire and Oxfordshire had a common sheriff until the reign of Elizabeth I, and the shire court was held at Grandpont. The assizes were formerly held at Reading, Abingdon, and Newbury, but by 1911 were held entirely at Reading. Berkshire has been the scene of some notable battles throughout its history.

Speenhamland was a tithing, or administrative subdivision, of the parish of Speen, though even in the early 19th century it was contiguous with the suburbs of Newbury. [2] It lies to the north of the River Kennet, between the centre of Newbury and Speen village to the north-west. [3]
