Biography. A controversial figure in his time, the English poet Leigh Hunt (1784-1859) spent two years in prison for attacking the Prince Regent in print in 1813. His politics and his poetry earned him the respect of a literary circle that included at its centre the most important writers of the Romantic era, Byron, Shelley, and Keats.
