For the past seven years, Glimm has dedicated himself to the Navier-Stokes existence and smoothness problem, one of the first steps to cracking the mystery of turbulence.

  3. Biography. James Glimm was the son of William Frederick Glimm Jr (1893-1983) and Barbara Gilbert Hooper (1904-1992). William Glimm, born 7 May 1893 in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA, was a superintendent in a paper mill. He married Barbara, born 10 May 1904 in Manhattan, New York, in St Johns Church, Jersey City, New York, on 23 April 1927.
