Biography. Swedish naturalist and explorer. Daniel Solander was a favoured student of Carl Linnaeus, but spent most of his life in England, working with Joseph Banks. The pinnacle of his career as a naturalist-explorer was taking part in the voyage of the Endeavour in 1768-1771. Solander was born at Piteå, Norrland, the son of a Lutheran rector.
