Il s'embarque pour l'Egypte avec son chef en mai 1798 et, après avoir été blessé à Saint-Jean-d'Acre et s'être illustré à Aboukir le 25 juillet 1799, il raccompagne Bonaparte en France. Pendant la Campagne d'Italie en 1800 , il dirige l'avant-garde, le 9 juin, après avoir tenu tête à toute l'armée autrichienne pendant une journée, il remporte la bataille de Montebello.

A mere volunteer who became a soldier of extraordinary bravery and sang-froid, literally covered in scars, Lannes was a key figure in Napoleon’s military success. Very much down-to-earth (in Italy when offered the Pope’s hand to kiss, he firmly shook it).

Jean Lannes (Lectoure, 10 aprile 1769 – Ebersdorf, 31 maggio 1809) è stato un generale francese, Maresciallo dell'Impero e duca di Montebello.
