General Sir William Howe was a central figure during the early years of the American Revolution (1775-1783) when he served as commander of British forces in North America. A distinguished veteran of the French and Indian War, he took part in many of the conflict's campaigns in Canada.
Battle of Germantown - October 4, 1777. To cripple the rebellion, Howe turned to Philadelphia, the rebel capital. Washington knew this too. In July 1777, Howe's forces set sail for the Chesapeake Bay and planned to march from the south to attack Pennsylvania. Once again, Howe gave Washington time to plan his defenses.
Overview. After the British abandoned Boston, William Howe replaced Thomas Gage as the British supreme commander in North America. Howe led the highly successful invasion of New York City in the summer of 1776. However, he was severely criticized for a lack of aggressiveness and was dogged by rumors of being soft on the rebels.

William Howe, 5º Vizconde de Howe, fue un general británico, comandante en jefe de las tropas reales de Gran Bretaña durante la Guerra de Independencia de los Estados Unidos.
