Directed with Boetticherian spare inteligence by low budget vet Edward Ludwig from a very strong script by Jo Heims (who would later write Play Misty for Me and Breezy for Eastwood) and starring that most low rent of 50s second tier cowboys Rory Calhoun. The sense of doom is strong, but there's nothing labored about Ludwig approach to it.
