In 1970, "The Cross and the Switchblade" was turned into a Hollywood movie starring Pat Boone as David Wilkerson. By 1983, this memoir had sold more than twelve million copies. I have not seen the film, and I wouldn't have known this book existed if my mother hadn't asked me to read it.
