BULLET FOR A BADMAN is the first screenplay the Willinghams wrote for Murphy, based on the book RENEGADE POSSE by Western novelist Marvin Albert. There's nothing special about the story, but it's a passable Western adventure. Murphy is Logan Keliher, a rancher who has married the ex-wife of outlaw Sam Ward (Darren McGavin) and adopted his son.

The two men accidentally meet in the town of Griffin when Sam's gang holds up the bank while Logan is arranging for a loan. Although the rest of his gang is killed, Sam escapes and visits Susan to warn her that he plans to have revenge on her new husband. Logan eventually captures Sam but is forced to untie him when they are attacked by Apaches.
