Geoffrey de Havilland war ein Sohn des anglikanischen Pastors ( curate) Charles de Havilland und ein Cousin von Walter Augustus de Havilland, dem Vater der Schauspielerinnen Olivia de Havilland und Joan Fontaine. Geoffrey de Havilland was born on 27th July 1882, the second son of Charles de Havilland, the village curate at Holy Trinity Church in Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire. Geoffrey enrolled at the Crystal Palace School of Engineering, Sydenham in 1900 where he designed a motorcycle powered by a 1.5 h.p. engine he built himself.
