Their 1970 self-titled album, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, put them on the map almost instantly. The ballad on the album "Lucky Man" would become one of their biggest hits, showcasing the band in a more acoustic style. 1971's follow-up Tarkus saw them going in an even more ambitious direction, attempting a 20+ minute multi-part suite which is seen by many as their crowning achievement.
