In 2020, Van Nuys High School was named to the “Top 20” National Magnet School of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools. To receive a national merit award, members of Magnet Schools of America must submit a detailed application that is scored by a trained panel of readers.
Van Nuys High School opened in 1914 as one of three high schools in the San Fernando Valley serving what was then a rural community. In the intervening eight decades, society has undergone remarkable social and technological transformations that have required schools to make tremendous changes in order to prepare students for an increasingly demanding and complicated world.
