30 de out. de 2020 · The sculptors and married couple Barbara Hepworth and John Skeaping lived at 24 St Ann’s Terrace, St John’s Wood in 1927–8, during the early stages of their careers. Hepworth broke new ground with her abstract sculptural forms and became a pioneering figure in British modernism, while Skeaping became a leading specialist in the realistic representation of animals.
Skeaping’s work concentrated on painting animals, in particular race horses, which he drew with an economy of line that caught the power of taut muscles and flowing manes of a galloping horse. Three of the best three known racehorses he sculptured were of the outstanding classic winners Mill Reef , Brigadier Gerard and Hyperion .

Fils de peintre, il a fait ses études au Goldsmiths College et à la Central School of Art de 1917 à 1919, puis et à la Royal Academy de 1919 à 1920. Il gagne le Prix de Rome en 1924 et épouse le sculpteur Barbara Hepworth à Florence la même année.
