6 de abr. de 2023 · Reverend Chidley Coote (1678-1730) and Jane née Evans had a son in 1726, Eyre Coote (ca. 1726-1783), born at Ash Hill which was known as Castle Coote at that time. Castle Coote in County Limerick is not to be confused with Castlecoote in County Roscommon, another Section 482 property that we have yet to visit.
This expedition, however, was stopped by the peace of Amiens, and Coote returned to England, and in 1802 he was elected M.P. for Queen's County, in which he possessed large property inherited from the famous Sir Eyre Coote. He had already represented, in the Irish House of Commons, Ballynakill (1790–97) and Maryborough (1797–1800).
Dance could only have painted Coote in England between 1767-69 or 1770-79. The Warren Hastings sale, Daylesford House, Farebrother, Clark & Lye, 22-27 August 1853, lot 923 was described as ‘Zoffany/A fine whole length portrait of Sir Eyre Coote, with despatches etc.’ (conceivably of the Seton pattern, see 1783).
