Frances Brandon (Jul 16, 1517 - Nov 20, 1559) was the daughter of Princess Mary Tudor and Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk. She was the mother of four daughters, most notably, Jane Grey, who was Queen of England for nine days in 1553.
Frances grew up familiar with court life, as Charles Brandon was the closest companion of Henry VIII, and the king's sister was familiar with his queen, Catherine of Aragon. The Princess Mary was only a year older, and the two girls developed a lasting friendship, interrupted when the king decided to divorce Catherine and the child Mary was sent away from court and declared a bastard.
