A Noble Beginning. In 1762, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich®, invented the meal that changed dining forever. As the story goes, he was playing cards and did not want to leave the gaming table to eat. He asked for a serving of roast beef to be placed between two slices of bread so he could eat with his hands. Thus, the Sandwich was born.

18 de out. de 2020 · Parece ser que el IV conde de Sandwich (sí, existió realmente bajo el nombre de John Montagu) allá por 1762, ávido de juego, pidió a su cocinero que le preparase un poco de carne entre dos rebanadas de pan para no parar de jugar, mientras comía con una sola mano sin ensuciarse los dedos, y a ese tentempié le puso su nombre.
The origin of the word 'sandwich' for an item of food may have originated from a story about John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. He didn't really 'invent' the sandwich but he may have made it popular. It is said that in approx.1762, he asked for meat to be served between slices of bread, to avoid interrupting a gambling game.
