• Forster was born into an Anglo-Irish and Welsh middle-class family at 6 Melcombe Place, Dorset Square, London NW1, in a building that no longer exists. He was the only child of Edward Morgan Llewellyn Forster and Alice Clara “Lily” (née Whichelo). His father, an architect, died of consumption（肺痨） on 30 October 1880.

Edward Morgan Forster ( Marylebone, Londen, 1 januari 1879 - Coventry, 7 juni 1970) was een Engels romanschrijver en essayist . Zijn werk heeft als thematiek veelal de botsing tussen twee culturen en de onoverbrugbaarheid van de verschillen. Hij haalde inspiratie voor zijn romans uit de reizen die hij maakte naar Egypte, Duitsland en India.

He spent his early childhood near Stevenage in Hertfordshire, before the family moved to Kent so he could attend Tonbridge School. He was an academic success, and went up to King's College, Cambridge, in 1897.
