Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Samuel Taylor Coleridge (født 21. oktober 1772, død 25. juli 1834) var en engelsk poet, litteraturkritiker og filosof som sammen med William Wordsworth var en av grunnleggerne av den romantiske bevegelsen i England. Han var også en av Lake-lyrikerne.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge was born in Ottery St. Mary, Devon in 1772. His father was a local vicar who was already 53 when Samuel was born; his father later died when Coleridge was just six years old. As a child, he was withdrawn but loved reading. He later recounted how much he enjoyed reading books such as Robinson Crusoe, and Arabian Nights.

29 de jan. de 2018 · Samuel Taylor Coleridge said that he wrote “Kubla Khan” in the fall of 1797, but it was not published until he read it to George Gordon, Lord Byron in 1816, when Byron insisted that it go into print immediately. It is a powerful, legendary and mysterious poem, composed during an opium dream, admittedly a fragment.

The poem essentially explores human will and poetic imagination, what can be achieved in nature and what can be imagined. Creative dream, remembered song, unusual rhyme scheme and structure.
