About Evelyn Waugh. Born in Hampstead in 1903, Waugh was the second son of Arthur Waugh, a prominent man of letters, and younger brother to Alec Waugh, the novelist. Educated at Lancing and at Hertford College, Oxford, Waugh came down with an undistinguished third in History.
