Henry James was born in New York City on April 15, 1843, and died in the London neighborhood of Chelsea on February 28, 1916. His parents were Mary Robertson Walsh and Henry James Sr. Mary’s parents (James Walsh and Elizabeth Robertson) were strict Presbyterians who had emigrated from Scotland and Ireland to New York City during the Revolutionary War.
