The raising of the Mary Rose in 1982 made headline news. As an archaeological event it ranked alongside Schliemanns excavations at Troy or Arthur Evanss discovery of Knossos, and so much information has since been gleaned from the wreck and its contents that there is an overwhelming tendency to treat the ship as a "time-capsule", like some Tudor burial site.
26 de set. de 2005 · The Mary Rose served successfully for 35 years as a principal warship in Henry VIII's navy. In 1545, while maneuvering to engage a French fleet outside Portsmouth, she unexpectedly went down in 14 m of water with disastrous loss of life; only 30-40 survived of ≈400.

She sank during the Battle of the Solent, off the south coast of England, resulting in the deaths of the vast majority of her crew. First author on the paper Jessica Scorrer, MSc graduate at Cardiff University’s School of History, Archaeology and Religion, said:
