The Quiet American becomes much more interesting when it becomes a bit more of a cat-and-mouse noir, but by that point I think it was a touch too late. It's actually fascinating how the movie keeps talking about the politics of the situation in Vietnam without actually providing any stakes.

This novel is a textbook catechism of what happens when Christian believers read the Bible too selectively and forget the eternal truth uttered by Jesus to Pontius Pilate that "my kingdom is not of this world."
