Charles Guillaume Ferdinand, Duc de Brunswick-Lüneburg (9 octobre 1735 – 1806) Né au Wolfenbüttel, en Allemagne, Karl Wilhelm fut duc de Brunswick-Lüneburg de 1780 jusqu'à sa mort en 1806. Jusqu'à Valmy et Iéna, Charles fut considéré comme l'un des plus grands chefs de guerre de l'époque.
In 1269, the Principality of Brunswick was formed following the first division of the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg. In 1432, as a result of increasing tensions with the townsfolk of Brunswick, the Brunswick Line moved their Residence to Wolfenbüttel, into the water castle, which was expanded into a Schloss, whilst the town was developed into a royal seat.
George, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (17 February 1582, in Celle – 12 April 1641, in Hildesheim), ruled as Prince of Calenberg from 1635.

Júlio, Duque de Brunswick-Lüneburg (1528-1589) (*Wolfenbüttel, 29 de junho de 1488 †Wolfenbüttel, 3 de maio de 1589) viveu de 1568 até sua morte Príncipe de Wolfenbüttel, fundador da Universidade de Helmstedt em 1574, originalmente para treinar o clero protestante para o Novos países reformados.
