The regions of NY are broken Into multiple zones. Upstate NY is sort of like using slang. Personally, I would say the true upstate NY starts from lake George and above. Other terminology used, for lake George and above, is called the “North Country”. Below that is the “Capital Region. You’ll see what I mean if you Google image NY Regions.
