Ray Bradbury’s early life laid the foundation for his prolific career as one of the 20th century’s most celebrated science fiction and fantasy authors. Born on August 22, 1920, in Waukegan, Illinois , to Esther (née Moberg) Bradbury and Leonard Spaulding Bradbury, he grew up surrounded by an extended family.
