Westley Richards Monkey Tail Carbine breechblock lever marked Westley Richards/Patent. Lockplate signed Westley Richards & Co., the tail with the date 1867 within a triangle. Brass fore-end cap, triggerguard and buttplate all numbered 830 as is the the breech. Single browned steel barrel band with saber bayonet lug.
An original, unopened package of Westley Richards .450 No. 1 Carbine for the Deeley-Edge Model 1869 Carbine. Among his seminal developments such as the doll’s head extension, Westley Richards, the founder’s eldest son, was instrumental in the development of the solid drawn brass case.
Chambered for Westley Richards’ .450 No.1 Carbine cartridge, the rifle would be suitable for hunting just about anything in the British Isles as well as most game encountered in continental Europe. The rifle would be a good candidate for restoration, but is also a fine addition for a Westley Richards or early cartridge rifle collection as these 1881 Deeley-Edge rifles are fairly scarce.
23 de dez. de 2016 · The Westley Richards monkey-tail endured even after cartridges had rendered percussion caps obsolete, and a 24” barrel carbine-rifle hybrid became popular among the Boers during the 1880s. Unable to acquire or afford metal cartridges, the Boers loaded these caplocks with homemade black-powder cartridges.
14 de fev. de 2023 · Most Westley .425’s of this era had 26” barrels with straight, heavy contours and normally weighed 9 ½ lbs. Yet, rifle #37682 was ordered as a lightweight carbine with a 23” barrel that has a series of 3 “steps” that the barrel contour drops down in diameter each time, effectively lightening the weight of the barrel.
4 de jun. de 2018 · 1869 Westley Richards Carbine. Just popped up in today's post, bit of a surprise as I haven't paid for it yet. I've read that there's lots of variations in style and caliber. Not being "improved" am I correct in thinking it's early production by the number or is that meaningless.
