Furthermore, as others in this thread have stated, the flag was never one for the Spanish Empire, but rather its military. I am incredibly suspicious of those who wave the flag when Andean and other indigenous peoples win elections. It's as if the flag's proponents are angry these groups are finally having a seat at the table.

Currently, the flag has three horizontal stripes where the top one and the bottom one are red and the wider middle stripe is yellow. In the left upper part, the national coat of arms is located. Its fields represent Castile, Leon, Aragon, Navarre, and Grenada. Hercules columns on the sides of the coat of arms symbolize Gibraltar and Ceuta.
