Sir Charles Algernon Parsons, (13 June 1854 – 11 February 1931) was an Anglo-Irish engineer, best known for his invention of the compound steam turbine, and as the eponym of C. A. Parsons and Company. He worked as an engineer on dynamo and turbine design, and power generation, with great influence on the naval and electrical engineering fields.

Sir Charles Parsons died on February 11, 1931, while on a cruise in the West Indies, and there then passed away one of the greatest engineers of all time. He was in his seventy-seventh year, having lived to see the fruit of his labours in the complete transformation of the methods of producing power from steam, both on land and sea.
