1874: Corpus Christi School is established. 1893: Five acres of land is bought by Corpus Christi to be used as a new cemetery. 1895: Cemetery is consecrated. 1899: Land is excavated in preparation for building a new church. 1900: The current church's cornerstone is laid. May 30, 1907: Corpus Christi's new church is dedicated.
The Pooler Catholic Community, led by the Rev. Thomas J. Murphy, was founded on May 2, 2015, and the first Mass was held in a rented space at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church. Corpus Christi is a mission of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Port Wentworth.
Among the texts the future saint and Doctor of the Church composed are the revered hymns, “Pange Lingua,” “Tantum Ergo,” “Panis Angelicus,” and “O Salutaris Hostia.” The Solemnity of Corpus Christi has grown and become an important annual celebration, often including Eucharistic processions, adoration, and Mass.
Our Parish Story. Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church was established on July 15, 1956 with Rev. Cornelius P. Flynn serving as pastor of some 250 Catholic families. The parish was created from the existing parishes of Saint Vincent de Paul and Holy Ghost for the southwest corner of Houston which was experiencing a period of rapid growth.
