Due volte vincitore del Premio Pulitzer per la poesia , è stato designato come sesto poeta laureato in poesia dalla Biblioteca del Congresso nel 1946 [1] e Consultant in Poetry presso la medesima biblioteca dal 1947 al 1948 .
