  1. Keri Hulme. Keri Ann Ruhi Hulme (9 March 1947 – 27 December 2021) was a New Zealand novelist, poet and short-story writer. She was of K ā i Tahu and Kāti Māmoe descent. [1] Her novel, The Bone People, won the Man Booker Prize in 1985. She was the first New Zealander to win the award. [2] She also wrote under the pen name Kai Tainui.
