Gustav Theodor Fechner var en tysk eksperimentalpsykolog, filosof og fysiker. Han studerte opprinnelig medisin, gikk over til fysikk og matematikk og var i 1834–1839 professor i fysikk i Leipzig. Mest kjent er Fechner som grunnlegger av psykofysikken, hans Elemente der Psychophysik (to bind) kom i 1860.

Gustav Theodor Fechner. Zunächst Physiker, später Philosoph, zählt F. zu den wichtigsten deutschen Gelehrten des 19. Jahrhunderts. Er leistete grundlegende Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet der Elektrizitätslehre und gilt als Begründer der sog. Psychophysik.
