20 de nov. de 2023 · Tracing Harriet Tubman’s family lineage, her parents, Harriet “Rit” Green and Benjamin Ross gave birth to nine children. Tubman, originally named Araminta Ross, was the fifth. Despite having several siblings, Harriet Tubman did not have any biological children. However, she adopted a little girl named Gertie Davis.
After an extensive campaign for a military pension, she was finally awarded $8 per month in 1895 as Davis’s widow (he died in 1888) and $20 in 1899 for her service. In 1896, she established the Harriet Tubman Home for the Aged on land near her home. Tubman died in 1913 and was buried with military honors at Fort Hill Cemetery in Auburn, New York.
Ben and Rit’s family grew over the next few years; Linah was born about 1808; she was followed by Mariah Ritty in 1811, Soph in 1813, Robert in 1816, and then Minty, or Harriet Tubman, in 1822. Thompson had married Edward’s widowed mother when Edward was a small child, and after she died in 1810, Thompson became young Edward’s guardian.
