George Nathaniel Curzon (11 January 1859 – 20 March 1925), born in Kedleston Hall, England, was a British statesman and foreign secretary who played a major role in British policy making during his terms in office. Lord Curzon succeeded Lord Elgin as Viceroy of India from 1899 to 1905. At the age of 39, he became India's youngest Viceroy.

Following his election to Parliament, George Nathaniel Curzon (1859–1925) embarked on extensive travels and research in Asia, spending several months in Persia in 1889–90. Later viceroy of India, Curzon believed that growing Russian influence in Asia threatened Britain's interests, and that Persia was an important buffer state.
