From 1979 to 1987 he represented South Dorset in the House of Commons, and in the 1990s he was Leader of the House of Lords under his courtesy title of Viscount Cranborne .

Robert Arthur Talbot Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury, KG, GCVO, PC, FRS, DL (3 Februari 1830 – 22 Agustus 1903), yang bergelar Lord Robert Cecil sebelum 1865 dan Viscount Cranborne dari Juni 1865 sampai April 1868, adalah seorang negarawan Inggris dari Partai Konservatif, yang menjabat sebagai perdana menteri sebanyak tiga kali selama lebih dari 13 tahun.

Robert Arthur Talbot Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury (3 February 1830 – 22 August 1903), styled Lord Robert Cecil before the death of his elder brother in 1865, and Viscount Cranborne from June 1865 until his father died in April 1868, was a three-time Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, during 1885–1886, 1886–1892 and 1895–1902.
