Ned Kelly (born June 1855, Beveridge, Victoria, Australia—died November 11, 1880, Melbourne) was the most famous of the bushrangers, Australian rural outlaws of the 19th century. In 1877 Kelly shot and injured a policeman who was trying to arrest his brother, Dan Kelly, for horse theft.

Ned, the only surviving member of the Kelly Gang, was tried for murder in Melbourne and found guilty. He was executed at Melbourne Goal on 11 November 1880. At the time of his execution his mother, Ellen Kelly, was also in the Melbourne gaol still serving her prison sentence.
