Hijo de Frederick Roberts Bader y de Jessie Bader, pasó sus primeros dos años en la Isla de Man, mientras su padre, que era ingeniero, presta servicio en la India.

15 de ago. de 2012 · L’AVM Leigh-Mallory si fece convincere da Douglas a lasciarlo volare fino al settembre 1941, e Bader ne approfittò per condurre in battaglia fino all’ulrimo i suoi piloti. Il 9 agosto 1941 gli Spitfires del Tangmere Wing decollarono per la missione “Circus 68” su Gosnay e Bader a bordo dello Spit Mk V W3185D-B, si gettò con foga in battaglia contro i Me 109 dello JG26.
