Edmund Gerald Brown served as Governor of California from 1975 to 1983 and again from 2011 to 2019. He is California's longest-serving governor. Jerry Brown founded Oakland Military Institute in 2001 and is the first charter ever sponsored by the state, the first public military school and the first school sponsored by the National Guard.
