17 de fev. de 2011 · Criterion presents Sweet Smell of Success in a wonderful new 1080p/24hz transfer in its original aspect ratio of 1.66:1 on this dual-layer disc. I hate to make such a generalization but for me the transfer is just about perfect. The image is sharp and crisp with excellent definition allowing even the threading in clothing to appear perfectly clear.
Sweet Smell of Success is one of those rare films from the 1950s that remains fresh and has lost little, if any, of its initial impact. Its stark neon-lit Manhattan location, where people rush about manically like steroid-dosed ants, gives the film a striking modernity and its subject remains just as relevant today as it did when the film was made.
