Frida was very close to her father. Of the 4 daughters that he had with Matilde Calderón, Frida was Guillermo Kahlo's favorite. She saw him as an intelligent, brave man. Guillermo's death in 1941 was a devastating blow to the painter. It would be more than 10 years before Frida painted her father after his death.
