Christ's College was first established as God's House in 1437 by William Byngham, a London parish priest, for training grammar school masters. Shortly after receiving its Royal Licence from Henry VI in 1446, God's House was forced to move from its original site as this was needed for the King's new project (what was to become King's College ).

Academic programme. Academic results. Christ’s College follows the national qualifications framework (NCEA) and our students consistently outperform boys from other decile 8–10 schools, with results well above national averages. A high proportion of boys gain Merit or Excellence endorsements. An overview of 2023 results is shown below.
Christ’s College was modelled on the public schools of England, which many of the men in the Canterbury Association had themselves attended. The emphasis was on a classical education, which included Greek and Latin, Modern Languages, Mathematics, English, History and Geography.
